Hope is a strand of light in complete darkness. It can bring life back to someone..

Harshitha, a thirteen year old girl suffering from Hodkinson’s Lymphoma, stage IV, approached ‘Belagu foundation’ for help for PET scan after treatment for an year at Kidwai. Unfortunately, her condition had remained non-responsive to treatment and Bone Marrow transplantation (BMT) was the only hope for her survival. The cost of Rs 10 to 12 lakhs was unthinkable to her parents, her father, vegetable vender and mother, a garment worker in Bangalore. Our foundation took the responsibility of supporting her for BMT at St John’s Medical College Hospital. It was through a social media campaign in co-ordination with ‘right to live’ we could raise Rs 6.7 lakh funds.

It was all a success story for the first three months after BMT done in August 2018 for her. She responded quite well and recovered very quickly. But the biopsy report in the late November confirmed that her fight against cancer was not over. She had a relapse, which is very rare after BMT.

Now, as per doctor’s advice, further treatment with an imported drug costing about Rs 1.65 lakhs per each 50mg has been started at St John’s hospital. Depending on her response to treatment, we require about Rs 12 lakhs to save her life.  Hence, a campaign has been launched to raise Rs 12 lakhs in the first phase of treatment. Please remember that 100% of your donation goes to treatment expenses. We don’t use any part of donations for admin expenses, since those costs are covered by trustees. The payment is only ever released to hospitals and not placed in patients’ hands.
